city of nananimo

I've had the privilege of partnering with the City of Nanaimo on a wide range of creative initiatives, from public art and placemaking projects to community campaigns and visual communications. As a member of the City's Urban Design Roster since its inception, I've contributed artwork and design that celebrates Nanaimo's unique identity, encourages exploration, and creates meaningful connections between people and place. Beyond my design work, I also teach creative programs through Nanaimo Parks, Recreation & Culture, helping inspire the next generation of artists and designers within the community.

Love Letters from Nanaimo reimagines the idea of a gateway as a message rather than a marker. Instead of simply announcing arrival, the design responds to presence. Drawing from the visual language of handwritten letters, envelopes, and postage stamps, the utility box becomes a piece of civic correspondence, a note from the land itself. The phrase “Glad You Are Here” shifts the tone to a warm sentiment, implying that the visitor is not just arriving, but already belongs. It suggests relationship, gratitude, and care.
